Zwei neue Arten der Gattung Antheraea Hübner, 1819 ("1816") werden vom Mt. Halcon von der Insel Mindoro (Philippinen) beschrieben: Antheraea (Antheraea) mindoroensis Brosch & U. Paukstadt, n.sp., und Antheraea (Antheraea) halconensis U. Paukstadt & BROSCH, n.sp. Die Holotypen verbleiben vorübergehend in der Sammlung Brosch, Hille, während die Genitalpräparate vorübergehend in der Sammlung von Paukstadt & Paukstadt, Wilhelmshaven deponiert wurden (werden zwischenzeitlich gleichfalls in coll. Brosch verwahrt). Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt werden die Typenfalter einschließlich der dazugehörigen Genitalpräparate in eine Museumssammlung gelangen. | Abstract
Two taxa of the genus Antheraea Hübner, 1819 ("1816") (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) from Mt. Halcon, Mindoro Island, Philippines, are described as new species: Antheraea (Antheraea) mindoroensis Brosch & U. Paukstadt, n.sp., and Antheraea (Antheraea) halconensis U. Paukstadt & Brosch, n.sp. The holotypes temporarily remain in the collection Brosch, Hille, while the genitalia slides are temporaryly deposited in the collection of Paukstadt & Paukstadt, Wilhelmshaven (in the meantime also deposited in coll. Brosch, Hille). At a later date, the type specimens and the genitalia slides will be donated to a museum collection. Antheraea (Antheraea) mindoroensis n.sp. is a member of the paphia/frithi-group (sensu Nässig 1991) and resembles A. (A.) larissa (Westwood, 1847). Lenght of the forewing of the holotype 82 mm. In the forewing of A. mindoroensis n.sp. no connection is present along the vein between the eyespot and the costal margin, and the eyespots in forewing and hindwing have a round hyaline center. The postmedian area without grayish scales. The male genitalia of A. mindoroensis n.sp. (genitalia slide U. Paukstadt (No. 0558) are well distinguishable from those of A. larissa. The tip of the aedeagus is less hooked than in A. larissa. In A. mindoroensis n.sp. the uncus is fused, of triangular shape and with short bristles, while in A. larissa the uncus is more rounded and with longer bristles. The labis, an extension of the transtilla, sometimes called "the third, or middle lobe of the valva", is longer and much more slender in A. mindoroensis n.sp. and the ventral lobe of the valva is longer. The female and the preimaginal instars of the new species are still unknown (the description was published lateron). Antheraea (A.) halconensis n.sp. represents a taxon of the helferi-group (sensu Nässig 1991) and resembles A. (A.) helferi borneensis Moore, 1892 (the taxonomic status of the taxon borneensis remains to be examined). Lenght of the forewing of the holotype 74 mm. In A. halconensis n.sp. the part of the vein M3 between the hindwing ocellus and the vein Cu1 is covered with black scales. Forewing ocellus, as well as hindwing ocellus with the innermost ring red colored, half the part of the ring scattered with yellow scales. The male genitalia of A. halconensis n.sp. (genitalia slide U. Paukstadt No. 0559) are well distinguishable from those of A. helferi borneensis and A. rosemariae Holloway, Nässig & Naumann, 1995. In A. halconensis n.sp. the uncus is bilobed but the lobes are shorter, the ventral lobe of the valva is much shorter, the saccus is shorter (similiar to A. rosemariae) than in A. helferi borneensis. The tip of the labis is not hooked as in A. helferi borneensis but dorsally a well hooked extension at the labis is present. Aedeagus shorter than in A. helferi borneensis. The female and the preimaginal instars of A. halconensis n.sp. are still unknown (lateron described by Lampe et al., 1997).
